Proposal for my Short Film

Producer(s): Ciaran Davis
Production Title: The Huge Snooze

Brief:
To make a short film that contains typical conventions of my chosen genre, in this case Film Noir.

Aim:
To create a short film parodying the conventions of Film Noir, called ‘The Huge Snooze’.

Description of your intentions:
The film will try to involve as many conventions of film noir, and parodies of iconic film noir shots, as can possibly be done in the small duration of the film.

I plan to use strong lighting to make the contrast between black and white so clear, and to cast shadows as shadows and silhouettes will add mystery to the film.

Much of the dialogue will be a non-diegetic narration, which is very common in Film Noir films.

By choosing appropriate locations, as well as period costumes and props, I plan to set the film in either the 1930’s or the 1940’s, when films of the Film Noir genre was most commonly made.

Target Audience:
My target audience will be fans of comedy and film noir due to its comical tone and parody of many of the conventions that can easily help an audience to identify a film as being Film Noir. The film would be similar to the 1982 movie, ‘Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid’ which also parodied the conventions of Film Noir. Fans of this movie are likely to enjoy my movie as the comedy will be of a very similar tone.

Similar Products:
The film that inspired me to made this short film was the Steve Martin film, ‘Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid’ as everything about it was made to look as if it was created in the 30’s-40’s, yet it was made in 1982.
